Pressure was also on President Truman from this time because the entire nation was just sick of the war. Truman did what the nation wanted, and he made the war end quick as possible by dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The moral issues of the United States and Japan were horrendous at this time. The United States tried to kill the Japanese and the Japanese tried to kill United States people. Food Lesson for an ESL Learner Learning about food is an important part of any ESL or EFL class. This food lesson provides some fresh approaches to help students practice speaking, writing and dealing with everything related to food. Before using this lesson, it is a good idea to have students learn some basic food vocabulary including vocabulary related to different names of food, measurements, and containers, ordering food in restaurants, and preparing food. Once students are comfortable with this vocabulary, you can move on to some more inventive activities such as writing recipes in English and having students describe their favorite meals to each other in class. Use this lesson as a way to review and expand all the various vocabulary and expressions related to food that youve explored with students in your class. The premise of this lesson is that students identify a new type of dish theyd like to prepare, research and write a recipe and make a list of ingredients. Finally, students make a trip to the supermarket - virtually or in the real world - to price items. Youll need access to computers to complete this lesson, or you can do the old fashioned way by actually going to the store with students. It makes a fun, if slightly chaotic, class excursion. The process of dying begins at birth. Each of us know that someday we will die, but we don't generally like to think or talk about it. The topic of death is often taboo in our society. Because of this, we are often unprepared when we are faced with the final stages of the dying process with someone we love. Attitudes and concepts about death and dying vary greatly. Death refers to the actual physical ending of life, while dying refers to the process of coming to that end. Most people do not simply stop breathing. It is often a slow, lingering, unwinding process that can take days, weeks, or months. Even the actively dying process can occur over a period of hours or days. Observing this process can be extremely difficult for loved ones. Some people experience the symptoms of being close to death and then, for some unexplained reason their condition may begin to improve a little. The family's hopes soar, only to be dashed again, as the loved one's condition deteriorates. These roller-coaster changes can be emotionally and physically exhausting for caregivers. Most of the fear of death is really fear of the unknown. Education and open discussion about the events that will occur can relieve much of the fear patients and families experience. Each death is different, a touching and special drama, just as each birth is. And usually the act of dying requires some assistance, just as the act of giving birth does. Because each person's death is unique, it is difficult to state exactly what will happen in each situation. This particular period of time is one of the most difficult times you and your family will experience. Some people believe that preparing for a death is the most difficult part of losing a loved one. Friends and family members may feel helpless as their loved one comes closer to death. Fear of the inevitable, sorrow, and anticipating the grief to come are common and can be completely exhausting. Many people who have a serious illness may anticipate their own passing and experience a range of emotions as well. A grief counselor can help an ill person work to resolve issues and, perhaps, achieve a level of peace with the inevitable. On a more practical note, there are issues that can be resolved during the period of physical decline that may lead to greater peace of mind. Protestant Reformation and Hamlet S Character

To Do or Not To Do? How many times does one find themselves shirking responsibilities they accepted, or avoiding promises they made? One who often finds himself in such situations, will most likely be able to relate with William Shakespeare’s character, Hamlet. In Hamlet, Hamlet is commanded by his father’s ghost to avenge his murder. Whenever Hamlet is presented with an opportunity to do so, he delays his action. Hamlet’s inability to act is a product of the time period during which the play was written. Shakespeare wrote Hamlet during the 1600s in Elizabethan England, during the time of the Renaissance and the Reformation. The Renaissance and Reformation’s belief in ghosts, ways of thinking, views on revenge, and doubts about the afterlife cause Hamlet’s inability to act on his father’s request. The effects of the Renaissance and the Reformation on Hamlet’s character, are manifest even before he meets the ghost. Formal mourning was taken seriously during the Renaissance, and most had people heeded a custom (which was usually upheld by a law) which forbade a widow to remarry earlier than a year following the death of her husband. In the start of the play, following his father’s death and his mother’s hasty remarriage, Hamlet enters with his suit of black, complete with mourning cloak and hood. At this point, Hamlet is already established as a Renaissance figure. Furthermore, Hamlet asks Gertrude and Claudius if he can return to university. Gertrude replies â€Å"go not to Wittenberg† (1. 2. 119). Hamlet studied at Wittenberg, a center of the Reformation. Hamlet’s past behavior gives evidence that he is affected by the Renaissance and the Reformation. The effect that the Renaissance and Reformation have on his actions is most apparent in his inability to avenge his father’s murder. Hamlet learns from the ghost of his father that his death had been a murder, and that â€Å"the serpent that did sting thy father's life now wears his crown† (1. 5. 46-47). The ghost asks Hamlet to â€Å"Avenge his foul and most unnatural murder† (1. 5. 26). Hamlet is eager to undertake this responsibility, and says â€Å"Haste me to know’t, that I, with wings as swift / As mediation or the thoughts of love / May sweep to my revenge† (1. 5. 30-32). But in actuality, Hamlet rethinks his commitment, and procrastinates. One instance of Hamlet procrastination is when he decides that he will not kill Claudius until he has actual proof of Claudius’s crime. Hamlet presents Claudius with a play. One sene of the play â€Å"comes near the circumstance,† (3. 2. 76) it’s plot is similar to Old Hamlet’s murder. Hamlet tells Horatio to â€Å"Observe mine uncle. If his occulted guilt / do not itself unkennel in one speech† (3. 2. 79-80). Hamlet wants Horatio to detect any sign of Claudius’s remorse or guilt. Why does Hamlet suddenly begin to doubt the reality of the ghost? Hamlet’s uncertainty is due to his protestant upbringing. â€Å"[Hamlet] attended Wittenberg, a Protestant school . . . and Protestants did not believe in ghosts† (Neuman). The Reformation had given rise to a new faction of the Church, the Protestants. Hamlet was educated by Protestants, who didn’t believe in ghosts, therefore he is reluctant to accept the ghost’s message. Hamlet’s hesitation to believe the ghost can also be related to Renaissance skepticism. Renaissance humanism and individualism, emphasized the belief in human reason, and Humanists started challenging and questioning the world around them. Hamlet is affected by Renaissance skepticism, and therefore is suspicious of the ghost’s reality. Another obstacle that stood in the way of Hamlets revenge was the opposition of the church and state, of Renaissance English, to taking revenge. The state viewed revenge as taking the law into one’s one hands and undermining the political authority of the state. They felt that the right and correct response to the original crime would be to allow the legal system to take over. The church disproved of revenge because they considered it disgraceful and a result of jealousy and hatred. In their opinion, God was the ultimate avenger. Hamlet’s struggles between society’s opposition to revenge and his own personal desire to avenge his father’s death. The belief of the afterlife is another cause for Hamlet’s inaction, lies in. The Protestant Reformation caused many debates about the existence of Purgatory and the road to Heaven. Catholics believe that â€Å"how we behave – will determine where in the afterlife you will eventually end up† (Zammit). One who dies in â€Å"God’s grace and friendship and [is] perfectly purified, live[s] forever in [heaven]. † If one dies and is still â€Å"imperfectly purified,† he will â€Å"undergo purification† (biblehistory) in Purgatory. If one dies â€Å"in a state of mortal sin, [he will] descend into hell† (Catechism of the Catholic Church). On the other hand, Protestants believe that anyone who accepts Jesus, receives him by faith and repents will go to Heaven. Those who reject God are sent to Hell, a place of torment and separation from God. Purgatory is never explicitly mentioned in the bible, therefore Protestants reject the Roman Catholic teaching that there is also a transitional place or process of purification of the soal. According to the Protestants, there is no Purgatory. Hamlet is unsure about the afterlife. At times he accepts the Catholic view, and at other times he trusts the Protestant view. Hamlet is presented with a perfect opportunity to kill Claudius. He approaches a kneeling, praying Claudius, but â€Å"he is consumed with the Christian notion of the afterlife. The conception that if one died while in prayer, they would automatically go to heaven† (A Christian Excuse for Cruelty). Hamlet wants to kill Claudius â€Å"when he is drunk asleep, or in his rage,/ Or in th'incestuous pleasure of his bed,/ At gaming, swearing, or about some act/ That has no relish of salvation in't† (3. 3. 89) so that Claudius will go to Hell. Although in the pervious instance, Hamlet leans towards the Catholic approach, he later discusses his uncertainty about the afterlife. Hamlet feels that if he cannot act, he can at least kill himself to escape his situation. But, in his â€Å"To be or not to be† soliloquy, Hamlet dismisses his suicidal plans because of his doubts about the afterlife. As Smith points out, at one point in his soliloquy, Hamlet â€Å"thinks for a moment that [death] may be like a deep sleep,† which seems like a fairly pleasant situation. But then, Hamlet wonders, â€Å"To sleep: Perchance to dream: ay there’s the rub; / For in that sleep of death what dreams may come† (3. 1). Hamlet is afraid of the dreams of the after life, the â€Å"pains that the afterlife might bring† (Smith). Hamlet continues to discuss the â€Å"dread of something after death,† and comes to reject his plans of committing suicide because of his dubiousness of the afterlife. Hamlet’s inability to act is largely a byproduct of the time period during which he lived. Hamlet was influenced by society’s views, doubts and beliefs. Even today, people’s actions are largely effected by the characteristics of the time period, and by society's pressures.

Describe the duties and responsibilities of own work role: As a childminder I will be registered and inspected with Ofsted to ensure that I am able to demonstrate the quality and standards of care required by Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage. My duty is to ensure that I provide high quality childcare, within a positive, safe, warm and happy environment where children feel welcome and comfortable. I am also to plan program’s and prepare play based activities for the children, to enable them to learn and develop at their own pace with supervision as appropriate. . My duties also entail completion of relevant paperwork.All of the above is to enable and ensure that parents are able to have peace of mind and to leave their children knowing that their well-being is paramount. Below is a list of my duties continued: †¢ Prepare and provide healthy balanced meals for children and be aware of their individual dietary requirements. †¢ Take the children that are in my full time care to childminding and playgroups. †¢ Provide breakfast and dinner for, take to school and collect from school all children that are in full-time education †¢ To maintain discipline of all children (whether in my care part-time or full-time), and encourage positive behavior Promote and maintain a high level of professionalism when carrying out my work †¢ To implement and update policies and procedures in line with ofsted guidance†¢ To ensure a safe environment for the children †¢ Carry out risk assessments on my home, and also of any places that we regularly visit. This may effect children who are discriminated on as it could delay their development, the child may become less confident and show a lack of confidence within particular activities and they may be seen as labeled.Another cause of discrimination could be discrimination against gender. This type of discrimination may stereotype against children who play with particular activities that are commonly associated with their gender. For example, a boy maybe seen more prone to play a physical activity like football or basketball and girls maybe seen more prone to dressing up as princesses and role play. According to Tassoni 2007 ‘During their early years, children are developing sense of identity, self worth and self-asteem. They are learning how other’s see them and treat them.A boy that plays with dolls may be discriminated on because of his choice of interest, there may be assumptions as to why he is p laying with them and not the footballs. This may affect the child as it may interrupt his learning, ‘he may grow up with a view of himself as inferior’ (Tassoni 2007 pg154) and he may develop serious emotional and social problems later on in life e. g finding it hard to form relationships’ (Tassoni 2007pg154). The effects of discrimination against parents/carers and families could be discrimination against their religion, sexuality, race and appearance.This type of discrimination could affect the children if they see that their parent/carers are being discriminated on, even if it is not through verbal communication it can still be seen through facial expressions and body language, this may result in the child of the parents having behavioral problems within the setting, becoming distressed or even physical behavior. This sort of discrimination can affect practice within the setting . In my role it is important to allow the children to have the same opportunities as any other child regardless of disabilities, race, religion etc. We do this buy having doll’s f different colour/race, disabled doll’s, aswell as fancy dress and books that are for both boys and girls that they are freely able to choice from and play with as and when they please. 2. 1Explain how legislation and codes of practice relating to equality, diversity and discrimination apply to your own role. Equality Act 2010 brings together all previous acts relating to equality and discrimination. ‘this act enforces equality legislation on a ge, disability and health, gender, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or transgender status, and encourage compliance with the Human Rights Act 1998.It applies to all organizations that provide a service to the public. This Act along with the EYFS requires my setting to put in practice policies and procedures to ensure children are treated fairly and equally but according to their needs regardless of learning difficulties and disabilities, to have a positive attitude towards diversity and difference. I have an equal opportunities policy that I follow. The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and 2005 ensures that all children as well as those with disabilities are provided with the same first hand experiences and or opportunities as those that are non-disabled.According to this Act, the arrangements for the admission of disabled children are: to prevent disabled children from being treated less favorably than other children in the setting, this means it would be illegal for a setting not to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate those with disability. Within my setting all children are provided with the same opportunities despite learning ability, disability etc but it may alter slightly to adapt to the child’s learning needs in an effective way so they are still included within the same activity.E. g at a counting activity some children may be asked to count to 20 and another child who is not as keen with numbers may still do the same activity but be asked to only count to 10, this depends on the child’s learning ability. Implementation of statutory duties can be put in place here also to ensure equal opportunities within working practice. These duties comply with the Race Relations Amended Act 2000, which requires workplaces to promote equality of opportunity, good relations between people f different racial groups and to eliminate unlawful racial discrimination both unto children and adults. Human Rights Act 2000:‘The act was not designed specially to protect children but they are accorded the same rights as adults. This means they have the right to dignity, respect and fairness in the way they are treated’ Tassoni et al (2007), This act ensures that settings influence working practices by following the legislation to promote fair and just practice towards children, respecting wishes and promoting practices in accordance to the child’s rights. E. ‘a setting is not able to use corporal punishment even if a parent consents to it, because it is seen as degrading and a violation of a child’s rights’, it also makes sure that I as a childminder provide the children with food, clean water as well as a comfortable and clean setting, that I spot the signs of abuse and report them as well as involving the parents and children in decision making where possible. United Nations Convention on the rights of a child (UNCORO – 1989 recognised in the UK in 1991) These are the righ ts of a child under the age of 18 years.The children’s rights apply to boy or girls, their religion, if they are disabled or the family’s diversities. There are children living in exceptionally difficult situations and that such children need special consideration. Governments have a responsibility to take all available measures to make sure that all children’s rights are respected, protected and fulfilled. They also agree to review their laws relating to children. This involves assessing Social Services, legal health and Educational systems, as well as levels of funding for these services.Governments are then obliged to take all necessary steps to ensure that the minimum standards set by the Convention in these areas are being met. They must help families protect children’s rights and create an environment where they can grow and reach their potential. There are over 40 specific rights below are some of them: †¢ The right to play. †¢ The right to survival and development. †¢ What is best for the child? †¢ The right to be safe. The right to live in a loving and caring family environment or alternative care and to heev contact with both parents wherever possible. †¢ The right to speak up and have your opinions listened to and their views respected. †¢ Every child needs to be registered after birth. The right to a name, nationality, freedom of expression and access to information concerning them.†¢ The right to education, leisure, culture. †¢ Children have the right to know and live their own culture. †¢ Respect the rights and respect others. The right to privacy. †¢ If you have a disability you have rights for special help for you to participate, the right to health and health care and social security. †¢ To be healthy. †¢ Children have the right to access special education. †¢ The right to be educated. †¢ Children have the right to live life free from discriminati on. EYFS 2008 has brought together all early years providers under one set of statutory guidelines, the aim was to improve the quality of care and education for children birth to end.It is statutory and that means that ALL registered early years providers MUST follow it, the purpose of making it statutory was to ensure all children were given the same opportunities for high quality care and education. If ever a parent wasn’t happy with the way in which I worked or felt that I wasn’t successfully providing a equal opportunity, diverse setting or there was discrimination taking place they could report it to OFSTED who are the regulatory body for childminders, they also make sure that a good level of work is always maintained, the enforce and inspect.

How to Make Your Website Mobile Friendly Using PHP It is important to make your website accessible to all of your users. Although many people still access your website through their computer, a huge amount of people are also accessing your website from their phones and tablets. When you are programming your website it is important to keep these types of media in mind so that your site will work on these devices. PHP is all processed on the server, so by the time the code gets to the user, it is just HTML. So basically, the user requests a page of your website from your server, your server then runs all the PHP and sends the user the results of the PHP. This allows the user to put on a different CSS template via a drop-down menu. This would allow you to offer the same content in different mobile-friendly versions, perhaps one for phones and another for tablets. This way the user would have the option to change to one of these templates, but would also have the option to keep the full version of the site if they prefer. One final consideration: Although PHP is good to use for websites that will be accessed by mobile users, people often combine PHP with other languages to make their sit do everything they want. Black Fly Beverage Company Essay Black Fly Beverage Company is a small beverage company based in London Ontario. The company has achieved recent success in the selling and promoting of their first alcoholic beverage, the cranberry/blueberry vodka cooler. The immediate success of this product presents two critical issues that the company must address. These critical issues are: †¢Black fly must expand its product mix in order to capture a larger market share in order to compete with larger established brands within the market place †¢Black Fly must also address capacity issues that will arise with an increase in demand or introduction of a new flavor Analysis. Current Situation Black Fly’s cranberry-blueberry vodka cooler has been well received by consumers due to its natural tasting ingredients and no chemical sweeteners producing a premium product different than existing similar beverages. The company now must take this opportunity to give their consumers another product to further explore the brand. Attempting to penetrate deeper within their current product will not allow its customers to further explore their favorite brand of vodka cooler. This will cause Black Fly to begin to lose their customers to other competing companies that offer multiple products and flavors (see exhibit 9). Black Fly also must also address the company’s capacity issues in order to allow them to meet the LCBO’s average order lead-time of seven days. At full capacity Black Fly is meeting the required lead time with minimal margin of error to account for delays, however, during the holiday season, which will occur as early as next month, the company will not be able to keep up with the increase in demand and will fail fulfill the LCBO’s order in time (see exhibit 7). Options The first option available to Black Fly would be to expand its product mix with the addition of a new flavor to compliment their existing cooler. The company will be able to take advantage of economies of scale through the current production; therefore a minimal cost of $30,000 will only be needed to cover development and merchandising fees. To cover this initial cost Black Fly will have to sell an additional 127 cases a month to break even, an increase of 10. 58% (see exhibit 2). It has been projected that adding another flavor to the product line could increase sales by 50 to 75 percent. This projected increase in sales would produce an annual expected ROI of 373% and 609% respectively (see exhibit 5). If however sales increased by only 10% due to the risk of cannibalization of their original recipe then the expected ROI would be -5% (see exhibit 5). This increase in sales however will put additional strain on the company’s current capacity (see exhibit 8). A second option to Black Fly would be the addition of a new specialty spirit-based product called â€Å"Spiked Ice†. This packaged ready to freeze cooler would be a non-competing product to the already successful cranberry-blueberry vodka. An advantage to this product is that there is no other product similar to it out in the marketplace. The LCBO has also committed to sell 8,000 cases of the product over the four summer months, which would produce revenues of $277,200 (see exhibit 3). Over this four month period this option will produce an ROI of 15% (see exhibit 6). To produce â€Å"Spiked Ice† the company however will have to purchase expensive machinery costing $500,000 and spend an additional $40,000 on merchandising and product development. To cover these costs Black Fly would have to sell an additional 7,585 cases of â€Å"Spiked Ice† (see exhibit 4). This may prove difficult as this new product is very seasonal producing higher sales in the summer months and potentially smaller sales in the fall and winter months, a time in which the LCBO has not committed to sell this product at this time. Another disadvantage to this option is the space that this new machinery would occupy in the already small warehouse. Black Fly’s current facilities cannot produce â€Å"Spiked Ice† and the original vodka simultaneously which would result in Black Fly loosing monthly revenues of $23,641 (see exhibit 1). Recommendation It is apparent that Black Fly must attempt to offer a variety of products to enhance its product mix and to keep current customers from trying other flavors offered by other competitors. At this time the best way to proceed with this will be to launch a new flavored vodka to compliment the already successful cranberry-blueberry vodka. The low initial costs and economies of scale gained through this option will allow Black Fly to introduce this new flavor quickly and efficiently to capitalize sales during the upcoming holiday season. To help address the concern of future capacity issues it would be recommended that Black Fly hire two more part-time workers and to run the production process seven days a week. This will be possible due to the expected high ROI associated with this option. This increase in production will allow the company to complete six full runs amounting to 3000 cases within the seven day lead time required by the LCBO ( see exhibit 10). In the future it will become necessary to upgrade to a larger facility and at that time it would be beneficial to begin producing â€Å"Spiked Ice†, however at this current time, given the company’s limited time in the market, it is suggested that Black Fly only pursue the launching of a new flavor. After the company has received sales from the holiday season the company will then be able to better address the possibility of relocating to a new warehouse and address their plans for â€Å"Spiked Ice† for the upcoming summer months.
